A Q&A with former detective and current CAPS board chair- Brook Germann
Q: Why did you get involved with CAPS? A: I worked with CAPS while investigating abuse cases as a detective. I saw how they treated kids—with care, patience, and respect. After speaking at a CAPS event, I was invited to join the board. I said yes right away. I knew this was work worth standing behind.
Q: What does this work mean to you, personally? A: I think about my kids. My grandkids. I want them to grow up in a place where they feel safe. That’s what CAPS is building—a safer future, one child at a time. It means everything to me.
Q: What gives you hope? A: CAPS doesn’t treat families like numbers. They focus on each child, each story, each moment. And when you help one child, it spreads. Families share resources, neighbors step in, cycles get broken. That’s how change happens.
Q: Why should others get involved? A: Because this is our community. CAPS shows up for kids in crisis every day. They need us—and we need them. When we support families, we build a stronger, safer community for all of us.
No child should have to wait to be heard. Your support helps make sure they don’t.
