Heart of the Holidays: Delivering Joy, Hope, and Care

As the seasons begin to change, CAPS & Maple City tends to feel the holiday spirit a little earlier than most. That is because preparations are already beginning for Heart of the Holidays, our annual effort to bring joy, hope, and a little extra magic to children and families we serve.

Heart of the Holidays at a Glance

Each year, Heart of the Holidays brings together generous supporters, community partners, and spirited donation drives to fulfill holiday wish lists for children in need served by CAPS & Maple City.

In 2025 alone, 71 families, and over 400 children, were blessed during the holiday season, and we hope to increase that number this season as we increase the number of children and families we serve in our growing organization. For many vulnerable families, these are gifts that may not otherwise find their way under the tree — new clothes, school supplies, toys, treats, and other items chosen especially for their children.

A Christmas to Remember

For one mother participating in our Healthy Families program, providing Christmas gifts for her four young children simply had not been possible before her family was connected to Heart of the Holidays. As a single working mom, stretching her limited income for extra gifts and treats just isn't possible.

“I wasn’t completely sure what to expect when I was presented with the chance for my children to be a on the wish list,” she shared. “I have four little ones, ranging from six months to eight years old.”

When Heidi Thompson, Healthy Families Family Support Specialist, prepared to deliver the family’s gifts, the back of her vehicle was full. She sent the mother a quick photo to let her know she was on her way.

When Heidi arrived, they began carrying in totes prepared for each child, filled with new clothes, school supplies, toys, and special treats. The mother began to cry.

“I can’t believe people did this for my children,” she said.

That year, the family was able to celebrate Christmas with gifts under the tree for the first time — but what arrived at their home was much bigger than the packages themselves. It was the knowledge that their family mattered and that a community was wishing them joy, stability, and hope.

That is the heart behind Heart of the Holidays.

More than an annual donation drive, the program reflects the vision CAPS & Maple City works toward every day: a healthy, safe community where children and families thrive.

During the holidays, that vision arrives at the front door — wrapped in generosity, carried by community, and filled with hope.
