Making Breast Cancer Screening Easier — and Getting Results
Updated: 3 days ago
At CAPS & Maple City, preventive care is not something we leave to chance.
At the end of the first quarter of 2026, CAPS & Maple City ranked third among Indiana Federally Qualified Health Centers for breast cancer screening and first in the state for cervical cancer screening.
Those results reflect more than strong numbers. They reflect a care model built around relationships, proactive follow-up, and reducing the barriers that can keep patients from completing important preventive screenings.
A Proactive Approach to Prevention
Breast cancer screening can help identify concerns earlier, when treatment may be more effective and patients may have more options for care. Our teams work intentionally to help patients stay on track with recommended preventive services, including mammograms.
Patients are notified when screenings are due, helping ensure important care is less likely to be overlooked by either the patient or provider.

“Quality preventive care means helping patients stay ahead of their health needs, not simply responding when something is wrong,” said Rebecca Shetler Fast, CEO of CAPS & Maple City. “Our care teams know their patients, track when screenings are due, and help them navigate questions and next steps so important care does not fall through the cracks.”
That relationship-based approach matters. Patients are more likely to follow through with recommended care when they have a trusted team helping them understand what is needed and where to go next.
Making Quality Care Accessible
Strong preventive care also means addressing the barriers that can make screening difficult.
CAPS & Maple City participates in the Indiana Breast and Cervical Cancer Program, which can help eligible patients access screening and diagnostic services at reduced cost. Sliding fee discounts are also available for qualifying patients.
By combining high-quality clinical care with support that makes services more affordable and accessible, we are helping more patients complete the screenings that can protect their health.
What Our Rankings Represent
We are proud to rank among Indiana’s leading FQHCs for breast cancer screening, but the real impact is found beyond the ranking itself.
It means more patients receiving recommended preventive care. More opportunities to identify concerns early. More people connected to a care team that is paying attention to what they need before a health concern becomes more serious.
That is the kind of preventive care CAPS & Maple City works to provide every day.
