Healthy Families Is Growing — and So Is Its Impact
Updated: Sep 22
CAPS & Maple City is celebrating record-breaking growth within our Healthy Families program — growth that reflects both the dedication of our team and the trust families place in this important service.
Healthy Families at a Glance
Healthy Families is a voluntary home visiting program that supports families from pregnancy through a child’s fifth birthday. Team members spend time with families each month, building trusted relationships with families while sharing evidence-based parenting education, exploring child development milestones, strengthening family relationships, and helping caregivers navigate the many changes and challenges that come with raising young children.

Home visitors also help connect families with community and clinical resources, working alongside parents and caregivers to give every child a safe, healthy, and strong start.
Today, CAPS & Maple City provides Healthy Families services throughout both Elkhart and Marshall Counties.
Growth by the Numbers
The program has experienced tremendous growth in recent years. In Elkhart County alone, Healthy Families served an average of 285 families in 2024.
Our reach expanded even further in 2025 when CAPS & Maple City began providing Healthy Families services in Marshall County. In June 2026, the combined program reached an exciting milestone: 354 families served — the highest monthly total in our organization’s history.
“I am amazed at the hard work and dedication our team has in providing outstanding services to families,” shared Tanya Machek, Healthy Families Director, who has been part of the program since 2013 and has served as director since 2021. “They are passionate about doing all they can to help others overcome obstacles, strengthen their family unit, and be the best that they can be for their children.”
Growing Relationships, Not Just Numbers
Behind every number is a family building confidence, navigating a challenge, celebrating a milestone, or simply knowing they have someone in their corner.
When a family connects with Healthy Families, they gain a trusted support system to help navigate the many ups and downs of a child’s earliest years.

“The Healthy Families program beautifully reflects the vision of CAPS & Maple City, coming alongside families early with preventive, proactive support, building on their strengths, and helping them navigate the challenges that arise along the way,” said Rebecca Shetler Fast, CEO. “By surrounding parents with encouragement, practical resources, and trusted support, we help create the strong foundation every child deserves—a family that is healthy, safe, and thriving.”
As Healthy Families continues to grow across Elkhart and Marshall Counties, we are grateful for the families who welcome us into their lives and for the team members who show up each day with compassion, knowledge, and encouragement. Together, that growth means more families supported, more barriers removed, and more children getting the strong start they deserve.
